He was honoured for creating the comic book by UN Women as a “gender equality champion.” Priya’s Shakti creates empathy for survivors and challenges patriarchal views, seeking justice for rape and acid attack survivors. She is the author of the “South African Women’s Guide to Self Defence” and has dedicated more than 40 years to the mental and physical empowerment of South African girls and women. Sanette believes that it is imperative for all women to equip themselves with the basic practical tools of self-protection, teaching women basic self-defence techniques that will keep them safe at home, at work and at play. Wilmien van Wyk
Wilmien van Wyk knows the pain of rape. She also knows the hurt after letting others into her space. She had no support from her mother, built a wall around herself, and coped with the rape on her own. She has since learned that not everyone is evil or good and became a warrior woman. This motivated her to start a Facebook page to help other women who are going through a similar ordeal and to give them hope.
